Assistant on Care and Health Offline (ACHO) is an offline voice assistant aimed at helping senior citizens with managing their pharmacological treatments. By promoting active ageing, the device proactively reminds users to take their medicaments using a voice alert. At the same time, ACHO offers a catalogue of features focussed on active care for senior citizens, reminding them of medical appointments and engaging in gamified communication with users. In implementing this, ACHO has taken into account the limitations of rural areas, and it functions independently of any internet connection.
The voice assistant is a response to the need to enhance the therapeutic adherence of older adults. ACHO achieves this with personalised reminders to take medicaments, offering tracking of the treatment and allowing health professionals to learn whether patients are really taking them.
Unlike commercial voice assistants, ACHO works without any internet connection, facilitating use in rural environments. With a mobile app and Bluetooth, the system enables carers and health professionals to configure the dosing of medicaments, as well as to obtain reports on the treatments.
The main aim of ACHO is to enhance the wellbeing and autonomy of older adults. The functionality of the assistant goes beyond pharmacological reminders, and it offers a catalogue of additional services:
-Generation of a reliable tracking profile of the physical and mental health of older adults. Through dynamic conversations, the assistant asks users about their feelings, and it can compile reports with their responses.
-Reduces feelings of isolation among senior citizens. The assistant has features centred on accompanying and entertaining the user through selective and personalised conversations, as well as gamified functions and games.
